Welcome to the Barony of Carolingia, the greater Boston area branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism. We are part of the larger East Kingdom, the region covering the northeastern United States and eastern Canada.

Welcome Night

Many Carolingians travel to the Great Pennsic War at this time of year and they are scattered across the vast fields and forests of that place. Therefore, it is our custom to host a "Carolingian Welcome Night" on the middle Saturday evening (August 7, 2010) at the Baron of Carolingia's camp. This camp is located in sector N-21, near the North Gate. It is on a small access road behind Sharc and Folkvang, there will be a sign on Battle Road pointing the way. It starts at "darkish", the usual time for Pennsic get-togethers. We will see you there!

August/September Council Meeting

Next Council Meeting:

DATE: August 30, 2010
TIME: 7:30pm
LOCATION: MIT Room 2-105

Note that this is not our usual date! There is no meeting at the beginning of August due to Pennsic and no meeting in September due to Labor Day.

Carolingia Fortieth Anniversary

Carolingia is planning to celebrate its 40th Anniversary on April 30, 2011. The first Carolingian event was a St. Valentine's Day ball in February, 1971 at Wellesley College, but in order to accomodate all the activities and groups that want to participate, we are holding the celebration a bit later in the season.

The site is the German Club in Walpole, MA. Lord Valerian of Somerset is autocrat and Lady Richenza is head cook.

Valentineanddisciples

We want this event to showcase the incredible breadth and depth of Carolingian experience. Almost every type of activity can be accomodated at the site (performance, dancing, fighting, fencing, arts and science exhibits, and more). We would like to hear from any Carolingian past or present with their ideas for contributing to this grand festivity!

May Day 2010

May Day was held on May 9 this year, at its usual location at Brandeis. Both fencing and fighting championships were held to choose new Champions for the barony for the year. The fencing champion is Lord Gavin Blackwode and the fighting champion is Sir Federach. There was socializing, a little drumming, and a meeting of our Order of the Daystars, our award for service to the barony. A new daystar was inducted, Lord Gundormr. A new silk baronial banner was unfurled, made by Irayari Vairavi.

New Prince and Princess

Gryffith and Aikaterine are the new Prince and Princess of the East. At Crown Tournament on May 8 in Isle du Dragon Dormant, His Majesty Edward crowns Gryffith (who was Edward's Knight) as Prince, Aikaterine next to him (in the yellow cloak). Her Majesty Marguerite is about to present the rose to the new Princess.
